The John Campbell Lesbian Fan Club worships the ultimate in postmodern journalists, and a really marvelous guy.

the man himself

"Marvelous. "

This page is dedicated to the wonderful John Campbell. We admire his wit, wisdom, talent, effusiveness and style.

John Campbell, born (196?) in New Zealand, educated in Otago Univeristy, where he honed his love the Dunedin sound. He was a RadioNZ cadet, and politicla reporter for TV3. He came to the nations attention in 1998, replacing John Hawksby as the evening newsreader in somewhat controversial circumstances. From that moment on, his career has progressed through TV and Radio, winning the best presenter in 2000. Constantly voted the Best Man in NZ by Listener Readers, and hitting the top of the Metro polls. Marvellous and popular.

There is a strange mystery and magic that flits across the screen, that draws millions to sit in staring at TV screens night after night to experience once again, the catharsis that transports us to strange magical worlds, and frees us from our earthbound existence. And in John Campell, we have a performer who is comfortably capable, of assuming the mantle of an all round performer. An artist who by his example of tireless dedication has paved the way for others who would follow in his footsteps. A quiet achiever, who in spite of relentless pressure from the press and obsessed fans; has maintained his credibility and integrity and in so doing, has earned the respect of New Zealand and the adoration of devoted fans.

Why do we in particlar adore John Campbell?
  1. His encylopedic knowledge of Dunedin bands that may have had a half life of a week
  2. His "Yeah, I am so beliving you" face, used to good effect in political interviews
  3. He gets to sit next to Carol Hirshfeld who we also adore.
  4. He takes the piss out of himself without any selfconciousness.
  5. His interviews do not feature him. He will let the interviewee to talk about themsleves without butting in.
  6. He makes no secret of his political leanings, and will argue with no little vitriol with commentators with the opposite leanings
  7. He'll take on all comers, and happily lines up politicans in his sights, but can also do informal, freindly interviews.

Always examine the source.
